Senior scientist, Bioinformatics, Needed at Roche

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Informatics or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, typically 5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 2+ years’ experience or a Ph.D.

Educational background and relevant work experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or Molecular Biology preferred. Experience in assay optimization, experimental design, versatile laboratory practice, data analysis, and modelling.

Proficient in using scripting programming languages: Python, R, Perl in a distributed Linux environment.

Strong data modelling skills.

Have a good understanding of molecular biology, including PCR, NGS. Prior experience in molecular biology wet lab work is a plus, as well as prior experience in the biology of infectious diseases.

Prior work supporting scientific informatics data mining, big data, machine learning is a plus.

Understanding of academic bioinformatics tools used for NGS data analyses and PCR.

Ability to independently implement and support informatics solutions that meet user’s needs.

Statistics, C++ or Java proficiency as well as understanding or prior experience with relational databases is a plus.

Prior experience using cloud computing, computer clusters and Galaxy is a plus

Prior experience developing diagnostics tests is a plus, but not required.

Good written & verbal communication and scientific presentation skills.
